Assamese - Assamese is the eastern-most language of the Indo-European family of langauges. It is spoken by about twenty million people in Assam on both banks of the mighty Brahmaputra. It has an illustrious written history going back almost a thousand years. The Assamese language grew out of Sanskrit, the ancient language of the Indian subcontinent. However, its vocabulary, phonology and grammar have been substantially influenced by the original inhabitants of Assam, such as the Boros and the Kacharis.

Assamese is spoken and used in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh. Also in Bangala Desh & Bhutan. It is state Language of Assam. Assamese uses Bengali script.

Bengali - Bengali is the state language of bengal. It uses Bengali Script. Its used by over 100,000,000 people worldwide as their first language. In India, Bengali is used in West Bengal & Its neighboring states. Worldwide its used in Bangladesh, UAE, Singapore etc.

Bodo - It is the language spoken by the Bodo people of Assam and comes under the Assam-Burmese group of languages

Dogri - Mainly spoken by the people of Jammu region

Gujarati - Guajrati is the state language of Gujarat, an western state of India. More than 60 Million people worldwide consider Gujarati as their first language. Apart from Gujarat, it is widely spoken in the states of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh. Worldwide it is spoken in UK, USA, Kenya, South Africa, East Africa, Uganda, Fiji, Singapore & New Zealand.

It uses Gujarati Script.

Hindi - The official language of India, accent and dialect differs with different regions but almost every Indian has a working knowledge of Hindi. It is written in a Devanagiri script.

Kannada - Kannada is the State Language of Karnataka. It's spoken by over 5 Million people worldwide. It's used in the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra. It uses Kannada Script.

Kashmiri - Though the language is mistaken as a state language of Kashmir only 55 per cent of the state's population speak Kashmiri.

Konkani - Spoken in the Konkan region stretched across Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka.

Maithili - Marathi is spoken mainly in Maharashtra & the Central part of India. It is the state official Language of Maharashtra

The main Marathi speaking areas are, Maharashtra, Parts of Madhya Pradesh, Parts of Andhra & Karnataka. It is also spoken & understood in the southern part of Gujrat. Outside India, Marathi speaking population is found in Mauritius, USA, UAE, South Africa, Singapore, Germany, UK, Australia & New Zealand.

The dialect situation throughout the greater Marathi speaking area is complex. Dialects bordering other major language areas share many features with those languages. Konkani, Goanese, Deccan, Varhadi, Nagpuri, Ikrani, Gowlan are various dialects of Marathi.

Malayalam - Malyalam is the State Language of Kerala, the southern state of India. Over 30 Million people regard Malyalam as their main language. It is widely spoken in the states of Kerala, Western Tamil Nadu & Southern Karnataka. Worldwide, it is spoken in UK, USA, Bangladesh, UAE & Singapore.

It uses Malayalam script

Manipuri/Meitei - official language of state of Manipur.

Marathi - An official language of Maharashtra. It has a fully developed literature of the modern type.

Nepali - The official language of Nepal, it is also spoken in some north eastern parts of India

Oriya - Oriya is the State language of Orissa, an Eastern State of India. Over 4 Million people consider Oriya as their first language. Apart from Orissa it is also spoken in Bihar, West Bengal, Assam & Andhra Pradesh. Some of the larger dialects have many subdialects. It uses Oriya script.

Punjabi - Punjabi is the State Language of Punjab, the northern state of India. Overe 30 Million people regard Punjabi as their main language. It is widely spoken in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir. Worldwide, it is spoken in UK, USA, Bangladesh, Canada, UAE, Singapore, Kenya, Fiji & Malaysia.

It uses Gurmukhi script

Sanskrit - The classical language of India that has lost it's value in the modern world. It is also one of the oldest languages in the world- perhaps the oldest to be recorded. All the ancient scripts are found to be written in the same language.

Santhali - Santhal tribals of the Chota Nagpur Plateau (comprising the states of Bihar, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa)

Sindhi - Is spoken by a great number of people in the Northwest frontier of the Indian sub-continent comprising parts of India and Pakistan.

Tamil - The State language of Tamil Nadu. Tamil literature goes back to Centuries before the Christian era and is spoken by more than 73 million people. It belongs to the Dravidian language family.

Telugu - Telugu is the State Language of the Eastern state of Andhra Pradesh. It is spoken by over 73 Million people worldwide. It is spoken in Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states, like parts of South Maharashtra & North Karnataka. Worldwide it is spoken in Malaysia, Fiji, Singapore, Bahrain & United Arab Emirates.

It uses Telugu Script.

Urdu - The state language of Jammu and Kashmir and is spoken by more than 28 million people in India. Urdu and Hindi have proceeded from the same source. Urdu is written in the Persio - Arabic script and contains many words from the Persian language.
